My favorite memory of Alyn is recalling how intently he played rotisserie baseball (what is now known as daily fantasy sports). I remember him working for hours on his computer, staring intently at the screen while his fingers worked the keyboard. I was curious as to what story he was working on. He wasn't. He was calculating the batting averages and ERA for his players. My recollection is that Alyn's team won. Hard work paid off. Alyn was a special person with a wry sense of humor mixed with compassion.

Alyn loved Peggy, Zack, Josh, Springsteen, fast cars, and no one could beat him in a one-liner contest. He was a relentless teaser, always with affection and never mean. A brilliant reporter, he really enjoyed the complex workings of the government. He was a good human and the world will be a little colder without him.

Alyn was one of a very few wry, savvy, old-school reporters who taught me how much good could be done— and fun had — at a newspaper. Swagger and sensitivity. Always a glint in the eye as he stalked that old carpeting in the Pleasantville newsroom. Zack and Josh, your father was a lion of the craft and I so looked up to him. Peggy, my love and condolences.
