Gertrude Estelle Ziegler Levine was one of our nation's feminist pioneers. Along with her philanthropic activities ( she was a lifelong member of the Golden Rainbow Link, Order of the Golden Chain, Hadassah International, and Deborah International, and an ardent supporter of human rights) she was a proud member of the NTA and walked the picket lines for teacher's equity. Gertrude crossed the "riot lines" in Newark to work at her job as a Kindergarten teacher, a job she held for 35 years. A devoted mother and daughter, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she inspired many students as well as members of her family with her kindness, intelligence and sense of justice. She will live in our hearts as an example of a truly good person.
