Obituary of Michael S. Jarmus

Michael Sherrill Jarmus passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the age of 81.

Michael was the loving son of the late Sam and Vicki Jarmus and the beloved brother of the late Randy Jarmus.

Some people leave behind possessions. Others leave behind memories. Michael left behind a soundtrack.

A lifelong lover of music, Michael found joy behind the microphone as a disc jockey and on stage, singing with his band. Whether spinning records or performing songs, he had a remarkable gift for bringing people together through music. His voice, his laughter, and his unmistakable sense of humor made every gathering brighter.

Michael proudly served his country as a Vietnam Veteran, a chapter of his life that reflected his strength, dedication, and sense of duty.

Beyond music, Michael was endlessly curious. He was intelligent, clever, and famous among family and friends for his quick wit and love of puns. An avid reader, he was always eager to learn, explore new ideas, and lose himself in a good story. He also delighted in collecting vinyl records, science fiction memorabilia, vintage maps, and classic movie posters—treasures that reflected his imagination and his appreciation for history, storytelling, and adventure.

Michael also enjoyed acting, bringing his creativity and personality to the stage and screen. Whether performing, singing, reading, or simply sharing a conversation filled with his trademark wit, he had a way of making people feel engaged and welcome.

Those who knew him will remember not only what he collected or the many interests that filled his life, but the conversations he inspired, the smiles he created, and the kindness he shared. He had a unique ability to make people laugh, think, and feel at home in his company.

Though his voice is now silent, its echo remains—in every favorite song, every old record, every well-worn map, every classic film, every good book, and in the hearts of all who loved him.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Michael is survived by his first cousin, Cheryl Morris, and her husband, Ron; his first cousin, Steven Jarmus; and many cousins, grand cousins, and friends who loved him and will carry his memory forward.
