It’s with deep regret that we lost Mark from HQ 6th floor. A wonderful professional I met back in 2019 who made me feel very welcome and always helped me with my HR work. I appreciated that we both came from Ashkenazi roots and he often shared with me how proud he was of his family members. I really felt like I always had a friend in him even though often this city feels isolating. He loved pizza and sweet potatoes and we often saw each other at the pantry. I hope we remember his kindness. RIP.

I had the privilege of supervising Mark from 2023 to January 2026 at FDNY and Mark will always hold a special place in my thoughts and memories. His face would always light up when he spoke about growing up as a New Yorker and the fond memories of his childhood. Whenever I needed help finding something, he would give me all the information he had at his disposal and loved working with our uniformed servicemen and women. He valued their contributions and always did his best to help them however he could (even if that meant referring them to me lol).
I'll always remember his rice and carrots for breakfast every-single-morning and helping him order the essentials whether it was shoes, socks, etc. when he needed it.
When he heard a funny joke or had something interesting to share (which could be a couple times a day), he would come see me with a little grin on his face and I knew I would be in for a great story and a laugh to break up the monotony of the day. At the end of the work day, if he wasn't at his desk, you could always find him at the window looking over Brooklyn in deep thought. Mark may have seemed quiet to others, but he was a great person to talk to and I was honored that he trusted me to listen to him and help him out when he needed a hand. My only regret is not being able to share one more laugh. Rest in Power Mark and you will not be forgotten.

Mark was a quiet and respectful gentleman, one of a kind. He was an amazing human being and very private. He did not show when he was in any discomfort. Every time I would see him, he would smile and say hello. Through his health issues, he would make it in to work, regardless of the weather, always showing up. He was strong will and very smart. I have voicemails of him calling me to remind me to submit his time sheet on time, as his timekeeper. I didn't hear from him this week and hesitated to give him a call because I knew it was not like him not to call me to submit his time sheet.
My condolences to his family, especially his niece Jennifer, whom he adored.
Rest In Peace Mark. Until we meet again my friend. You will be missed.

Mark was a co-worker and a great friend. We were of the same generation and shared similar life stories. He had a great work ethic and went about his responsibilities with a quiet dignity. We both struggled with computer/technology issues as when we grew up it was manual typewriters, written ledgers, rotary telephones and index cards. I last spoke with Mark about a month ago and he mentioned that he was contemplating retirement due to health issues. I will very much miss Mark and may his memory be a blessing.

Mark was a quiet man and usually to himself, but when we realized we both took a similar commute home, we got to know each other a bit. Whenever I needed files, or someone needed assistance with Aflac, Mark never hesitated to give a helping hand, even when I didn’t know him well. It was good to have someone to commute with. We’d get off at the same stops and change cars when traveling with “interesting” passengers or cars that were way too crowded.

In 2015 I was hired into the Fire Department of New York's (FDNY) Human Resources department to manage the FDNY's more than 17,000 hard copy personnel records and file room. It was Mark Wasserman that introduced me to the file room and the whys and hows and ins and outs and the who's who.
Mark had his ways and he was hard to move and change but reluctantly he did. We talked him into getting a cell phone and showed him how to go online for the brief period of time that we worked from home during Covid-19.
For all of his inflexible ways, Mark was an intelligent man who had an interesting life. He told stories of working the Summer vacation camps in the New York Catskills. How he met sports figures and celebrities. How he snuck into hear the bands play in Woodstock. How he turned down opportunities to work in the sports world. When he found that I worked in a hospital in Newark NJ, he related how he went there to be treated for the effects of some tainted water he ingested during a trip to the Mideast, hiking in Iran. He was hard core in his likes and dislikes by the time I met him but I liked Mark. He was a part of my team and a work buddy. I miss him. RIP
