Robert Ruderman

Obituary of Robert Ruderman

Robert Ruderman, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 98. Born on August 29, 1927, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey to Florence and Zelig Ruderman, Robert lived a life defined by service, hard work, and kindness.

Robert was raised in an Orthodox Jewish home, a foundation of faith and tradition that shaped his values and guided him throughout his life. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II as a radio operator in Japan. Following his service, he remained deeply connected to his fellow veterans as an active and dedicated member of the Jewish War Veterans, honoring the bond and legacy of those who served.

After returning home, Robert married the love of his life, Sophie, in Asbury Park, New Jersey. A proud Rutgers graduate, Robert built a career as a Certified Public Accountant. Later, he and Sophie embarked on a new adventure together, purchasing the County Sweet Shop, a beloved candy and luncheonette in Parlin, New Jersey. With their children pitching in after school, it was a true family effort. Bob could often be found behind the counter turning out pork roll, egg and cheese on a Kaiser roll— a true Jersey classic — and the shop became a cherished part of the community. Bob later brought his steady hand and warm personality to Bally’s Park Place in Atlantic City, where he worked as a cashier until he was 79 years old.

When winter arrived, Robert and Sophie could be found soaking up the Florida sunshine — a ritual he cherished each year. And no matter the occasion, Robert could never be persuaded to turn down a scoop of ice cream. And he was a constant and loving presence in his grandchildren’s lives, showing up with pride at their graduations and cheering them on at every milestone.

He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his warm heart, and the steady genuine kindness he showed everyone around him.

Robert is survived by his devoted wife, Sophie Ruderman; his son, Michael (Lisa)Ruderman; his daughter, Eileen (Kevin Lynch)and five beloved grandchildren: Zachary Ruderman, Paige Ruderman, Heather Ruderman, Michael Lynch, and Rachel Lynch. Predeceased by his parents Zelig and Florence Ruderman  and brother Murray Ruderman.

May his memory be a blessing to all who loved him, and may his family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem
