Myrna Berg

Obituary of Myrna Berg

Myrna Schweiger Berg died peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family and friends, on March 28th.  Myrna is predeceased by her husband, Kurt Berg, and her daughter, Michelle Barbara Berg.  Myrna is survived by her 2 daughters, Alisa Berg and Sharon Berg-Hochberg, Sharon's husband, Mark Hochberg, their 2 children, Rachel Hochberg and her husband Andrew Lappitt,  Sarah Kaplan and her husband Myles, and her 2 great grandchildren, Jillian and Jacob Kaplan.

She is also survived by her brother, Fred Schweiger, and his wife, Nelly, and their daughter, Tammy, as well as many other nieces and nephews, cousins, and special friends.

Myrna was born in Newark to Irving and Sarah Schweiger. Myrna was active in Young Judea,  graduated from Irvington High School in 1955, and from the Beth Israel School of Nursing in 1958.

Myrna married Kurt in October of 1958.  They moved to Edison in 1963, where they raised their family.  They were members of Congregation Beth El and Mirror Lake Beach Club.  In the early years of raising her family, she worked as a school nurse for the Head Start program.  Once her children were older, she worked as a nurse at the Central Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged in Somerset.  She loved her time at the Jewish Home and was a caring and compassionate nurse.  She worked there for almost 20 years.

In 2000, Kurt and Myrna moved to the Fairways at Lake Ridge in Lakewood, NJ. They were blessed to have many of their relatives and Edison friends living close by and fortunate to make new friends there. After Kurt's passing in 2007, Myrna's friends were her lifeline and became part of her extended family.

In 2023, Myrna moved to Stein Assisted Living in Somerset, NJ. She was blessed to have spent her last few years surrounded by the love of her community. Her room at Stein was very popular, and staff and residents would be in her room at all hours listening to stories. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even her granddog Lilah could be found roaming the halls of Stein constantly.

The care she received in the last weeks of her life was a comfort to her and her family.  She will certainly be missed by all who knew her.
